Lives and Works in Los Angeles

Joshua Elias (b. 1957, Chicago; based in Los Angeles) is a lyrical abstract painter whose large-scale oil-on-linen works explore memory, materiality, and interior cartography. Using earthy tones, layered textures, and poetic form, his paintings invite viewers to wander between clarity and mystery. Recent exhibitions include Santa Fe, Healdsburg, Paris, Tokyo, and a True Colors show at LewAllen Galleries. His current "Recent Works" series focuses on suspended spaces and metaphorical maps—offering immersive portals into psychological and spiritual landscapes. Elias works daily at his studio in the Brewery Arts Complex, where he continues to experiment with paint-making and poetic reflection.
